Obituary – Juana Martinez

In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 25, 2013, our dearly loved Mother, ‘Mo’, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, Juana H. Martinez (Juanita), left her earthly home to join her Savior, Jesus Christ, her beloved husband and family members who preceded her to her Heavenly home.

Juanita was born in Valentine, Texas on May 16, 1919 to Timoteo Hernandez and Sira Gonzales Hernandez. She was the first born of five children. As a young woman Juanita worked to help her family, and at the age of 18, Juanita met the love of her life, Marcelino Martinez.

On November 22, 1937, Juanita and Marcelino married and four daughters were born to this marriage. Juanita and Marcelino celebrated sixty-four beautiful years of marriage before his death on April 14, 2001.

Juanita’s 94 years were filled with love of church, family and friends. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of San Juan Catholic Church and an active member of the Guadalupanas organization. She was an excellent quilter, a great cook, and loved working in her yard.

Our family is left with warmhearted memories of Mom/Grandma cooking special dishes for us and wonderful stories of her life.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Nellie Zuniga of Anaheim, CA, Tillie Trevino of Balch Springs, TX, Cira Paz and her husband Luis, and Rita Perez of Odessa, TX; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Secundino “Nino” Hernandez of Cerritos, CA; and many, many godchildren.
