Mustangs Across America make pit stop here

This past Saturday morning ushered in one of those near perfect spring-time weekends in Van Horn, with a bright blue sunny sky, warm temperatures and… hundreds of Mustangs.

The herds of four-wheeled Ford Mustangs cruised through town all day long, stopping for gas and a quick bite to eat as they headed for tonight’s roundup in Midland, Texas on their way to North Carolina to celebrate the 50th anniversary milestone of the automaker’s popular pony car.

This epic event, called Mustangs Across America, began April 10 in Los Angeles. Participants travel a pre-designated route of approximately 350 miles per day for seven days, ending up in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 16 just in time for the Mustang Club of America Car Show festivities, commemorating the 50th birthday of the Ford Mustang.

Enthusiasts from around the globe numbering more than 600, are making the cross-country driving tour in vehicles ranging from the very first vintage 1964 ½ Mustangs to the latest Shelby GT’s and Cobras.

Organizers have promoted similar tour events for the devoted Mustang aficionados every five years since 1994, but claim this 50th anniversary affair to be the largest yet.
