Elvira T. Hernandez, 70, passed away in Odessa on April 13, 2014. She was born in Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico on May 15, 1943. Elvira was the dearest wife, mother and grandmother who provided an example of how life should be lived; with love, strength and quiet dignity. Known for her laugh and smile, she prided in her family, frequently telling humorous stories of past events.
May all follow her strong example until we see her again. She is survived by her husband Blas Ibañez Hernandez of Sierra Blanca, one daughter Olga Ruiz and her husband Ray of Orange, Tex. , three sons: Mauricio T. Hernandez and his wife Lupe of Sierra Blanca, Michael T. Hernandez of Sierra Blanca and Ricardo T. Hernandez of Ft. Stockton.
She is also survived by her four sisters: Petra Solis of Van Horn, Celia Carrasco of Van Horn, Consuelo Urias of Odessa, Stacey Fernandez of Odessa and five brothers: Jose Torres of Van Horn, Carlos Torres of Oklahoma City, Esequiel Torres of El Paso, Pedro Torres of Odessa and Bernardo Torres of Porvenir, Chihuahua, Mexico, and her brother by heart Pablo Baeza. Elvira was blessed with one grandson, Brian Hernandez and two granddaughters, Iris Natividad and Jasmin Ruiz. She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Ester Torres and her sister Manuela Franco.
A funeral mass was held on April 17, 2014 at our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church of Van Horn officiated by Father Saul Pacheco. Pallbearers were Mauricio Hernandez, Michael Hernandez, Ricardo Hernandez, Brian Hernandez, Nacho Garcia and Ray Ruiz. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Carrillo Funeral Home of Van Horn.
