OBITUARY: Esteban V. Velez

Esteban Vejar Velez, 73, of Van Horn passed away on Aug. 19 in Lake Jackson, Texas.  He was born in Bosque Bonito, Mexico to Evidencio and Rita Velez on May 7, 1941.  He attended school in Sierra Blanca, married Margarita Franco on December 14, 1964 in Van Horn.  He was a retired and true servant of his faith.  He was also an active member of the McDonalds Coffee Club. Esteban is survived by his children: Olga Ramirez and Eric Ramirez of Van Horn, Steve Velez Jr. and Idey Velez of Lake Jackson, Rosa Corralez and Jesus Corralez, Sr. of Van Horn, Lorina Gonzalez and Rolando Gonzalez of Van Horn, Carlos Velez and Cecilia Velez of Lake Jackson, and Enrique Velez of Lake Jackson. Esteban was also survived by his sisters Elvira “Elvis” Bustamante of Sierra Blanca, Linda Patterson of Suwanee, Georgia, Lidia Gray of Boca Raton, Florida and his brother Raymond Velez of Sierra Blanca. He was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Esteban was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margarita, his parents Evidencio and Rita and his sister Eva Salgado. A funeral service was held on Aug. 22, 2014 at The Assembly of God Church officiated by Pastor Lorenza Borrego. A burial followed at The Van Horn Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Henry Enriquez, Jr., Vince Enriquez, Stevie Velez, Alexander Corralez, Rolando Gonzalez, Jr., Carlos Velez, Jr., Joel Velez and Enrique Velez, Jr. The Velez Family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Heritage Funeral Home, especially Matthew Velez and Linda Hillin, Sister Lorenza and The Assembly of God Church, Culberson Hospital, Krystal and her beautiful voice that dad was so proud of, the Luna Family and all our family and friends for all your prayers, food and  support. Special thanks to Idey Velez for staying by Dad’s side and showing him so much love and care.
