After a great season, Lady Eagles fall to Wink Wildcats at Regionals

BY COACH ERICA URIAS

The Van Horn Lady Eagles battled Tuesday at the regional quarterfinals against Wink. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t find their groove and ended up the team with the most turnovers.

The Lady Eagles had an excellent run. They are the first team in 13 years to get past the Area round. They worked hard all season and made some spectacular plays against some big schools. Even in losing we gain so much.

We had the opportunity to wake up every day and play a game that we all love to play and along the way we had some sweet victories including: 4th place finish at the Wink Tournament (beating Wink and behind 3 Midland Schools), 3rd place at the Pecos Tournament (behind Pecos and Fort Stockton), 1st place at our own Van Horn

Tournament and finally a District Championship and an Area Championship.  That’s a spectacular season!

Seniors Kianna Fierro, Justine Quintana, Karina Ramirez and Cassandra Castro, helped pave a great path for next season, one that took a lot of hustle, sweat and tears.

Hats off to them.

Their leadership and dedication to this team will never be forgotten. They not only worked hard to be great but they inspired others to be great, too, and that’s what it’s all about. We had an excellent run this season and built a strong foundation for next season and seasons to come. We have four juniors and seven sophomores returning for next season. They will have the experience we need to make an even bigger run next year.

Thank you to all our family, friends, fans, and staff at CCAISD for always supporting and encouraging our program. We appreciate the loyalty and faith you had in us from the start. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Many more great things to come, Eagle fans. See you next year.
