This year the 2nd annual Buzzard Festival was bigger and better with more fun for the entire family. Once again the festival played host to a variety of events to include a mini-golf tournament, car show, food and merchandise vendors, a buzzard drawing contest, piñatas, and new for this year, a washer’s tournament.
Starting with over 52 business and individual sponsors, the Town of Van Horn came together and played together. There were hourly door prizes, tournament cash prizes, and even a raffle that gave away a television, a sound bar, and a bicycle to an eager child. This year we had an even larger attendance with hundreds attending, and we also played host to the El Paso Classic Car Club who promised even more cars for the next year.
However, the Buzzard festival takes the return of the buzzards to Van Horn to task, and that was the only disappointment, for only one buzzard was spotted because it seems that they left early this year to continue their journey to their final destination. But wait until next year when again we watch for the buzzards and Van Horn comes together for family fun and activities.
The Buzzard Festival committee would like thank all the volunteers and sponsors that readily gave time and money to make this event again a great success. Congratulations to all those who won prizes and thanks again for your participation. All proceeds remaining from the festival will go to a scholarship to a deserving Van Horn High School senior.
