RELIGION: Beautiful Purpose

BY TONY McCREERY, PASTOR FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

Lately I have been contemplating just how little we understand about God’s love and care for us. It seems to me that most of the time we don’t realize that we are the crown of His creation, intended to be God’s companions- even friends. Created for a life of worship, and a life that glorifies Him.

So, what does it mean to Glorify Him? Sounds like a church word to me. Has a lady ever walked past you with quite a bit of perfume on? So much so that when she leaves the room her scent remains? God’s glory is a lot like that. We have walk around this earth that He created with His scent — His essence — wafting from our lives in such a way that even after we leave the room folks know that they have been around a child of God, that His essence, His presence remains.

The scripture calls King David a friend of God. Now we know that King David messed up a lot. He was an adulterer and a murderer, among other things. And yet he was called a friend of God. A friend. A good friend can complete your sentences, knows where you are at all times, knows your likes and dislikes- can you imagine being so close to God that you know those things about Him? And yet, that is what we were created for.  We see in Genesis that in the Garden of Eden God often came in the evening time to visit with Adam and Eve. We are created for a purpose! We are no accident! God knit us in our mother’s womb, we are told, and He has great plans for each of us: plans for a hope and a future.

I leave you this week with the words of a Mercy Me song that has been on my heart today, entitled Beautiful. As you read the words, I pray you know they are for you.

“Days will come when you don’t have the strength, When all you hear is you’re not worth
anything. Wondering if you ever could be loved, And if they truly saw your heart they’d see too much. You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. You are made so much more than all of this.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. You are treasured, you are sacred, you are His.
You’re beautiful.
Praying that you have the heart to find, Cause you are more than what is hurting you tonight.
For all the lies you’ve held inside so long, they are nothing in the shadow of the cross.
You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. You are made so much more than all of this.
You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. You are treasured, you are sacred, you are His.
You’re beautiful.
Before you ever took a breath, Long before the world began, Of all the wonders He possessed, There was one more precious. Of all the earth and skies above, You’re the one He madly loves, Enough to die. You’re beautiful, You’re beautiful, In His eyes.”
