The Lady Eagles played outstanding at the Regional Golf Tournament this year. Out of 16 teams, they placed 5th, missing 4th place by only three strokes and 3rd place by just 22 strokes. They battled both days not only against the other teams but the extreme weather as well. However, the Lady Eagles maintained their composure both mentally and physically, and finished the tournament with their best team score.
They played lights out on the second day and produced some of the most intense and best golf we’ve seen all season! The seniors, Rebekah Oñate, Natalee Ball, and Natalie Hernandez came through with their experience and composure as the competition rose. Freshmen, Lezlie Jones and Calise Cottrell both proved that, on the course, golf does not separate by age or grade, but by how great your misses are.
This year we will lose some of the best Lady Eagles I have had the opportunity to work with. Reba, Ball, and Nat-Nat are three of the most extraordinary young ladies I have had the opportunity to coach. Their dedication to this sport and their work ethic both on and off the field defines exactly what they are exceptional.
I am extremely proud of this Lady Eagle Golf Team. Together, they still made history by posting the best girls’ team score Van Horn has ever had. They are definitely champions in my book–in every sense of the word.
The Van Horn golf program is looking quite promising for the upcoming seasons. As these young athletes continue to develop, I see many great things to come and look forward to many more victories. Thank you to the parents for their encouragement as we continue to build the golf program. Thank you to Tito Urias and Triumph Junior Golf for the continued support we have received both on and off the course. The athletes are learning so much through the game of golf and it is inspiring to watch as they mature and grow as athletes and individuals. Keep on the lookout for more greatness to come! GO EAGLES!
