Obituary: Elfida Faye Calderon Segura

Elfida “Faye” Calderon Segura passed from this world into God’s hands on November 5, 2014 at the age of 89. Faye was born in Valentine, Texas on November 10, 1924 to Clemente and Adela Calderon.  She grew up in Valentine and attended Valentine High School. She graduated salutatorian of her class in 1942.  She married the love of her life, Stanley L. Segura, in 1947. They were married 64 years and made their home in Valentine, and later in San Antonio. She was very active in her community, served as a school board member, PTA president, and church liaison. Through her life she was a dedicated wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a true friend to her last days with us. Faye’s greatest joys were going to dances, taking part in family gatherings, and attending church at Sacred Heart in Valentine, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Oblate Mission in San Antonio.

Faye moved to San Antonio in 2006 to receive weekly dialysis treatments. Faye was a loving and compassionate soul. Her beautiful smile and her warm, giving, caring spirit touched everyone she met. Her passion was her family, her cooking, and the San Antonio Spurs. Her wonderful food made her many friends. She wanted most to be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Clemente and Adela Calderon, her husband Stanley Segura, her brothers Ernesto Calderon and Richard Calderon, and her sister Virginia Vallejo. She is survived by her two daughters Eva Lorena Alvarez and Corinna Kay Pryor, four grandchildren, Dr. RaeLynn Alvarez Wicklein (Peter), Christa Rae Gillham (Patrick), Corie Leigh Barragan, Charles Klint Flippen (Paige) and seven great-grandchildren, Alexandra Gillham, Abbygale Gillham, Axel Wicklein, Augustine Wicklein, Cody Barragan, Cash Flippen, Paisley Flippen, and another great-grandson due in March 2015; brothers Eliseo Calderon of Alpine, Reymundo Calderson of Del Rio, and Mike Calderson of Odessa.

The family thanks all the doctors, nurses, and care personnel that helped Faye and our family at DaVita Dialysis Center and most recently at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital.

A celebration of Faye’s life will be held in San Antonio at Porter Loring Mortuary, 2102 North Loop 1604 East, on Monday, November 10, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.
Burial services will be in Valentine at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
