Hospital and Clinic recognize staff during celebration week

Employees at Culberson Hospital and Van Horn Rural Health Clinic are being recognized with overlapping celebrations of  National Nurses Week, May 6 – May 12, and National Hospital Week, May 10 – May 16.

According to the American Nursing Association, this year’s theme for National Nurses Week “Ethical Practice, Quality Care” recognizes the importance of ethics in nursing and acknowledges the strong commitment, compassion and care nurses display in their practice and profession.

“These are characteristics our nursing staff brings to work every day,” said Jared Chanski, administrator, “and I could not be prouder of the staff’s contributions to patient care, comfort and satisfaction. However, we consider everyone on staff at the hospital and clinic a part of the patient care team,” reported Chanski.  “We all touch patients in different ways and together are responsible for making our patients feel at home and well cared for, so it is fitting that all employees are acknowledged over a five-day period.”

The National Hospital Week theme “Where Miracles Happen Every Day” underscores the importance of all “the men and women who support the health of their communities through dedication and compassionate care.”

Hospital and clinic employees are all being allowed to wear jeans this week which everyone always appreciates.  But the real celebration centers on food.  Special events began on Monday with employees invited to “Cowboy Up” with nachos served for lunch, followed by Jersey Day when employees dressed in their favorite team jersey and played in a Wii Bowling tournament.

The staff will join together on Wednesday to celebrate the anticipated delivery of a new Van Horn resident, the daughter of Corazon Villero, RN, and Miguel Villero, PT. The baby shower will feature cake, punch and, of course, games.

Thursday will take staff back to the 1950’s with Coke floats and a game, similar to a ring toss, which involves rolling hula hoops towards 1 liter beverage bottles hoping that the hoop will fall and encircle the bottle.  The Friday finale is an outdoor cookout for all employees along with a water balloon toss.

“Preferred looks forward to opportunities like this to say thank you to our staff members for what they do every day to care for the residents of Culberson and surrounding counties,” said Chanski.

Culberson Hospital and Van Horn Rural Health Clinic employ more than 70 individuals on a full or part-time basis.
