District Judge Roy Ferguson recently completed a six-month assignment to the 8th Court of Appeals in El Paso.

Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht selected Judge Ferguson to sit with the Court while awaiting the appointment of a successor to recently-retired Justice Guadalupe Rivera.

Justice Steven Hughes of El Paso was ultimately appointed to fill the vacancy. Judge Ferguson served on the appellate court in addition to his regular duties presiding over the 394th Judicial District Court, which encompasses Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, and Presidio Counties.

“I consider it the highest of honors to sit alongside such outstanding jurists as Justices McClure and Rodriguez,” said Judge Ferguson. “I promised when elected to serve the people of West Texas as best I can, and will continue to answer the call, whenever and however I am needed.”

The 8th Court of Appeals hears criminal and civil appeals from 17 counties in West Texas, including all of the Big Bend region. Judge Ferguson is up for re-election in 2016.
