The VHHS debate teams competed at the TXFA Qualifying meet at Burges High School in El Paso last weekend. There were 15 teams, mostly from El Paso. Varsity debaters Camille. Uranga and Kyle Seyffert came away with 3rd place honors. New debaters Ashanti Garcia and Steven Urias gained valuable experience , with improvement obvious in every round!
Seyffert and Urania were undefeated until the semis when they ran into a team from Big Spring. The locals did a great job, but were unable to pull off yet another win.
Next weekend the teams will go to O’Donnell to participate there, and get more experience in debating. Believe me, it is SO much more than simply arguing with an opponent.
The teams have one more practice meet at Seminole. Seyffert and Uranga hope to gain at least 2 more points so that they can qualify for the TXFA State meet in Georgetown, the weekend before the UIL State meet in Austin.
