Concepsion “Chon” B. Gomez, 81, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 2, in San Angelo.
Viewing was held on Friday, March 4 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Holy Rosary led by Mr. Guadalupe Alvarado, Jr. Funeral Mass was held Saturday with Father Saul Pacheco officiating. Burial followed at Van Horn Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers were Joey Gomez, David Gomez, Luis “Kiki” Rubio, Richard Rubio, James Gomez and Jonathan Morales. Honorary Pallbearers were Andres Hernandez, Bobby Reyes, Edward Lopez, Benjamin Gomez and Luis A. Rubio.
Mr. Gomez was born on August 16, 1934 in Van Horn to David Tarango Gomez and Felipa Benavidez Gomez. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Upon return from his service in the military, he entered into marriage with Jovita “Dora” Sanchez, now Gomez, on May 29, 1955. Mr. Gomez was an Insurance Agent and retired from American National. He was a member of the Lions Club, served on the City Council in the late 70’s, avid member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church serving as Eucharistic Minister and in the Church Choir. Mr. Gomez was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a loving friend to all. He will be greatly missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
Mr. Gomez is preceded in death by his parents, David and Felipa Gomez, daughter, Julie Gomez and a brother Carlos B. Gomez. He is survived by his loving wife Jovita “Dora” Gomez, sons, Abie Gomez of San Angelo, Chon Gomez, Jr. and wife Debbie of San Angelo, Jaime Gomez and wife Rebecca of El Paso, daughters, Ilda G. Rodarte of San Angelo and Aida Valadez and husband Michael of Arlington, sisters, Alicia G. Reyes of Van Horn and Gloria Lopez of El Paso, 11 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Services entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton, Texas.
