Early voting yields large turn-out; Last chance to voice your opinion for CCAISD Proposition One for $30M Bond

By Becky Brewster

The CCAISD Board of Trustees has Proposition One on the ballot for the May 7 election for voters to decide on whether or not to approve a $30M bond issue for facility improvements.  As previously reported, the CCAISD School Board has sent out informational flyers to all Post Office box holders and developed a webpage relating to the 2016 Bond proposal on the District’s website at http://www.ccaisd.net/district/bond2016 in order to provide factual information to the residents of the District.  Displays with the campus design concept are at various locations throughout town.

This has been a highly debated issue with record turnouts for early voting.  As of Tuesday, 485 voters had cast their ballots.  There are 1546 active voters on the list of registered voters in Culberson County and 28 voters registered in Allamoore.  This turnout is over 30% of the total active voters in the school district, and is even slightly higher than the 443 voters that voted early in the Democratic Presidential primary held on March 1.

Many of these voters may have flocked to the polls early due to the many conflicting events this weekend, including the Cinco de Mayo festival, the VHHS prom, the Race for Grace, or family activities scheduled for Mother’s Day weekend.   But there are still almost 70% of the voters that have not voiced their opinion yet.  Saturday is your last chance to participate in this decision.

Whether you support or oppose the proposition, the final important step to this process is to go vote.  The polls are located at City Hall at 1801 W. Broadway.    Other items on the ballot include the races for Mayor and Aldermen for the Town of Van Horn. The polls will be open on Saturday, May 7 from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
