Ask Tia Juana

Dear Tia,

Do you think that binge watching “Murder She Wrote,” old “NCIS,” episodes, “Columbo” and sappy movies on the Hallmark Channel, is grounds for divorce?  I am a news junkie and in an effort to appease my wife, I try to share the TV remote, and you would think that having 300+ channels would provide us with a variety of entertainment to choose from.  But noooo…I am beginning to have an illogical hatred of the musical theme from “Murder She Wrote,” and I feel like I could bludgeon Angela Lansbury with a TV remote!  To make matters worse, my wife falls asleep before the murder takes place, so it’s not like she is hypnotized by the plot Please help before I revert back to the local cable company and 10 channels, or take up Candy Crush!

Justifiable homicide

Dear Justifiable,

I feel your pain and believe that preferences in TV channels and shows should be discussed before any long-term commitment.  It’s right up there with, “do you want children,” or are you a Democrat or Republican!  Choice of television shows can make or break a marriage and a pre-nup on objectionable shows is a good idea.  However, sometimes couples do not find out until it’s too late and are doomed to a lifetime of reruns, which might be considered mental abuse in divorce court.  Of course, you could try compromising on a neutral show, like PBS or the History Channel, or you could mow the lawn three times a week.  Good luck!
