The Van Horn Eagles Volleyball season is under way.  Coach Urias, Head Coach for the Lady Eagles, has announced the Lady Eagles starters.  This year’s starters are Senior Lezlie Jones, Senior Celeste Ramirez, Senior Renee Rivera, Junior Jadein Tarango, Senior Amanda Ramirez, and Senior Tabitha Carrillo.  The Lady Eagles have traveled to face the intense heat and the Presidio Blue Devils.  Coach Urias stresses the Freshman and JV teams have shown much improvement days and are working hard to learn all the things this level of volleyball entails.  Although the Freshmen and JV teams came up short, Coach Urias knows they will improve throughout the season with continued hard work.

The Varsity team was definitely feeling the heat in Presidio.  The Lady Blue Devils were relentless at home but still came up short against a feisty Eagle team.  Scores for the match were, set one, Van Horn 25 – 20, set two Van Horn 25-21, set three was dropped to Presidio 16-25.  Coach Urias blamed lack of defense for the downfall in set three.  The Lady Eagles regrouped in set four and ended the match winning 25-20.  Coach Urias said, “This team has a lot of moving parts and has so much to offer both on offense and defense.”  “It’s extremely promising to see them in sync this early in the season,” she adds.

The Lady Eagles fell to Crane, (as did Marfa), yesterday and later lost to Marfa.   They will be traveling to the Monahans Tournament Friday and Saturday.
