Obituaries – ALBERTO “BETO” MENDEZ

ALBERTO “BETO” MENDEZ, surrounded by his loving family, passed away at his home in Van Horn, Texas he was 60.

Alberto was born on August 4, 1956 to Rodolfo Pena and Petra M. Tally in Van Horn, Texas.  Alberto answered the ultimate call serving during the Vietnam War.  Being a Veteran and a member of The United States Army was something that “Beto” loved.  He would help any local Veteran that he could and would always assist in placing flags on graves of Veteran’s.

“Beto” married the love of his life Amelia Hernandez on June 11, 1977 in Sierra Blanca, Texas.  “Beto” was a member of the Red Sox senior baseball league in Van Horn.  When he was not playing baseball, he was cheering for his favorite team The Cardinals. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends.

Visitation for Alberto was held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Home.  Rosary was recited on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Antonio Martinez officiating.

Those serving as pallbearers were:Isaiah Bazan, Roberto Barzn, Jr., Gabriel Baeza, Ruben Mendez, Jesus H. Ramirez, Orlando Ramirez, Julian Hernandez, Jr. and Fernando Hernandez.  Those service as honorary pallbearers were: Rita Carrasco, George Lopez, Jr., Ruben Mendez, Jr. and Ronnie Mendez.

Alberto is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Jose and Maria Mendez; and his paternal grandparents Alberto and Magdalena Pena.

Those left to cherish the life of “Beto” his wife of thirty-nine years Amelia Mendez of Van Horn; his daughter Rebecca Baeza of San Antonio; his daughter by heart Concha Urias of Van Horn; his sons by heart Isaiah Bazan and Robert Bazan, Jr. of El Paso; his mother Petra M. Tally of Van Horn; his father Rodolfo Pena of Scottsdale, Arizona; his brothers Ruben Mendez of Van Horn, Salvador Lerma of El Paso and Tony Pena of Arizona; his sisters  Alicia Lopez of Van Horn, Joan Alvarado of Arizona, Lorena Ramirez of Arizona, Alma Castellanos of Arizona, Christina Diaz of Arizona and Jaqueline Valencia of Arizona; and his granddaughter Felicia M. Baeza and many friends.

Services have been entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home.
