The Junior High Lady Pirates were on the road to Balmorhea Monday, November 28 to play the Lady Bears. The Bears jumped out to a six to nothing lead in the first couple of minutes of the game but the Lady Pirates came back and were trailing by one at halftime.
Two of the 8th graders, Cecilia Corral and Samantha Kuhlman, were unable to play in the second half and the Lady Pirates had to depend upon the play of mostly sixth and seventh graders for the rest of the game. These young ladies held their own and only trailed by three points going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears were able to score 6 points in the last minute and a half and defeated the Lady Pirates 26 to 17.
Seventh grader, Nevaeha Mora led the Pirates with six points followed closely by seventh grader, Mickie Siddiq with 5 points. Eighth graders Jaymie Sanchez added four points and Samantha Kuhlman had two points before leaving the game at halftime. Other Pirates to see playing time included Arleene Corral, Bela Oldham, and Jordan Miller.
The Pirates are open this coming Monday as Dell City was unable to field a girl’s team this year. The Pirates host the Fort Davis Indians on December 12th at 5:00 p.m. to close out the first half of the Junior High basketball season.
