The Junior High Lady Pirates extended their current win streak to seven games with a 21 to 17 win over the Fort Davis Lady Indians in Fort Davis on Monday, January 30. The Pirates jumped out to a 17 to 4 lead in the first half with the Indians scoring two points with eight seconds to go in the second quarter.
The second half belonged to the Indians as the Pirates were unable to score in the third quarter and it appeared as if the Indians might come back and win the game. The Indians hit a three point shot with just over a minute to go and trailed by three points. Cecilia Corral hit a free throw at that point in the game and secured the Pirate’s four point win.
Mickie Siddiq led the Pirates with eight points followed closely by Corral with her seven points. Jaymie Sanchez had four points and Nevaeha Mora closed out the Pirate’s scoring with her two points. Arleene Corral played a great defensive game, especially on the press. Jordan Miller pulled down several rebounds to help secure the win. The Pirates will play in the district tournament this weekend in Marfa to close out the season.
