Tarango wins Crane Invitational

By Coach Lone Flippen, VISD

Elvis Tarango continues to rock the 148 lb. powerlifting class in meets in this region.  Tarango won the 148 lb. class at the Crane Invitational Meet on Saturday lifting a total of 1145 lbs. in his three lifts.  Once again, he set personal records in the squat, lifting 420 pounds and in the bench press lifting 265 pounds.  He tied his personal best of 460 pounds in the deadlift and was just inches away from lifting 500 pounds.  Elvis appears to be tied for third place in the state in his classification and only five pounds away from sitting in second place.  He will travel to Fort Stockton on February 11 for his next meet.

Tarango will then change hats the following week and run in the Panther Relays on the February18 and begin his preparation to return to Austin for the second year in the 100 and 200 meter races.  He was one of the top runners in the state last year before injuring himself at the state meet which did not allow him to participate.
