Valentine Golfer receives bronze medal last week

By Coach Lonnie Flippen

Jaci Garcia, a senior at Valentine High School, participated in the Fort Davis Invitational Golf Tournament in Marfa on Wednesday, February 22.  She was the only golfer representing Valentine as her sister Jessie Garcia, a regional qualifier from last year, has been unable to participate due to a long-term injury.

Jaci shot a 122 in her first outing this year which saw her finish in third place and received the bronze medal for her performance.  Jaci was competing against other district opponents from Fort Davis, Marfa, and Big Bend High School.  The only other school that typically competes in golf in our district is Sierra Blanca and they did not send a team to Marfa.

Jaci has a couple more tournaments scheduled before the district tournament which will also be held in Marfa in early April.  She, along with everyone at Valentine, has hopes that her sister, Jessie, will be able to join her before the district tournament rolls around.
