Eagles Compete in Crane, Struggle against Kermit

By Coach Victor Pallares

The Van Horn Eagles kicked off the 2017 baseball season with three tough games at the Crane Classic. The Eagles squared off against the Coahoma Bulldogs in their first pool game. Van Horn managed to score two runs early but could not muster any offense after that. Luis Escajeda led the team with two hits in two at bats. In the second game of pool play, the Eagles limited Forsan to just 5 runs. In their bracket game, the Eagles took on Ozona. The Eagles struggled early and could not recover. With their third loss in the tournament, Van Horn was not able to advance further.

On Monday, the Eagles traveled to Kermit to take on the Yellowjackets. The boys managed to get on base in their first at bat but could not get a run across. The Eagles allowed three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Van Horn managed eight hits as a team. Landon Drake and James King each collected multiple hits. Isaac Baeza hit his first career homerun with a shot over the right field fence.

We will host the 2017 Oasis in the Desert Classic this March 9th through 10th. The Eagles will play against Tornillo at 6:00 on Thursday and open up the second day of the tournament against Pecos Freshmen at 12:00.
