The Valentine Junior High Pirate’s girl’s track team competed in Sanderson on Saturday, March 4th. This was the first “team” that Valentine had fielded in many years. The four girl team consisted of eighth graders, Samantha Kuhlman, Cecilia Corral, Jaymie Sanchez and seventh grader, Mickey Siddiq.
Kuhlman was entered in the high ump, the discus, and the 400 meters as well as both the 4×100 relay and the 4×200 relay. Corral participated in the shot put, long jump, 100 meter dash, and both relays. Sanchez was entered in the long jump, discus, and both relays. Siddiq ran in both relays as well as being entered in the shot and long jump.
The field events were cancelled due to rain. At that time, Sanchez was sitting in first or second place in the discus and Kuhlman was one of several girls who had cleared the opening height in the high jump. No one placed in any of the other field events.
Both relays finished in 5th place and Corral ran seventh in the 100.
