Eagle District Baseball off to a great start

The Van Horn Eagles opened up district against McCamey and managed to beat the Badgers, 10-9. The Eagles found themselves in a back and fourth struggle. The Eagles managed to hold off the Badgers in the top half of the 7th inning and secure their first win of district. Offensively, the boys combined for 10 RBIs off 13 hits.

In their second district game of the season, the Eagles put it all together and ten run ruled Anthony, 15-5. In their win against the Wildcats, Van Horn played their best game of the season this far. The Eagles limited their mistakes and made great plays to hold the Wildcats to just 5 runs. At the plate, the Eagles combined for 13 RBIs off 17 hits.

In their third district game, the Eagles traveled to Fort Hancock to face the Mustangs. The Eagles jumped out to 1-0 lead after Juan Zamora batted in Luis Escajeda. However, the Mustangs would rally to take the lead in the bottom half of the third inning, 1-2. The Eagles would take the lead in their next at bat after Landon Drake managed to bring in a run and score on a wild pitch by the Mustangs. Fort Hancock would rally to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth and take the lead in the bottom of the 5th, 3-4.

The Eagles would rally in the 7th inning and manage to score 6 runs. Alex Urias managed to bring in a run after Damein Tarango led off the inning with a single. Luis Escajeda brought in two more runs for the Eagles with a hard ground ball to left field. Daniel Arrazate would bat in the final two runs for the Eagles and finish the frame with a 9-4 lead.

The Mustangs rallied in their final at bat and put the Eagles on the ropes. Fort Hancock’s first batter hit a triple to to start off the at bat and would score after an outfield single. The Eagles found an out after Escajeda struck out a Mustang batter. Another run would score after defensive miscues by the Eagles allowed the runner to score on a passed ball by the catcher, 9-6. Fort Hancock managed to score another run and put runners in scoring position. Escajeda got a crucial strike out but walked the the next runner to bring in another run, 9-8. The Mustangs had the winning run at 2nd base. Escajeda managed to strike out the batter and secure the Eagles third win in district play.

The Eagles will play in McCamey on Friday at 10 in the morning. The Eagles will need all the support they can get as they hit the road for this pivotal match up against the Badgers.
