The shorthanded Valentine Junior High Pirates volleyball team once again held their own against an opponent that was loaded with talent.  The Balmorhea Lady Bears came to Valentine Tuesday and played three games, winning two out of three.

Balmorhea won the first two games by scores of 25-15 and 25-16 with the Lady Pirates winning the third game 25-17.

Several people mentioned the fact that the Pirates are improving with every game. Their serving is much improved. Sixth grader, Claudia Figueroa scored several points with her serves against Balmorhea. The girls are setting much better and even though they are playing one person short, they are playing more as a team as each game goes by.

Other team members are 8th graders, Bela Oldham and Mickie Siddiq as well as 7th graders Isabel Guillory and Jordan Miller. The Lady Pirates will be in action on October 3 against the Wink Wildcats. The game was scheduled to be played in Wink but has been moved to Alpine and will be played at the Alpine Middle School with a 4:00 start scheduled. Come out and support your Lady Pirates.
