Obituary— Isabel P. Mendoza

Isabel P. “Chavelo” Mendoza, 78 of Fort Stockton, passed away on August 17, 2020 in Odessa, Texas. Isabel was born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Julio and Cleotilde Mendoza on January 15, 1942.

Chavelo enjoyed farming. He started farming at the age of 13 and made that his lifelong career. He loved western movies. His favorite TV show was Gunsmoke. He also loved listening to Norteno music. He loved to listen to El Corrido De Los Mendoza by the group, Los Pescadores del Rio Conchos. Chavelo was also fond of the song Te He De Amar by Paralelo Norte. A perfect start to Chavelo’s day was waking up to the Glory of God, the smile of his beautiful wife in which he would enjoy that first steaming cup of coffee and even better if he could have a piece of German Chocolate cake. Chavelo always enjoyed the weekends with his friends and family, he made it a point to go out for burritos with his friends and made sure to spend his Sunday with his family.

In 2008 Chavelo moved his family from Van Horn to Fort Stockton to give the oilfield a try. He later returned to farming. He was employed by McKenzie Land and Cattle where he worked for 9 years. Chavelo was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be truly missed.

Chavelo was preceded in death by his daughter Matilda Mendoza’ his parents Julio and Cleotilde Mendoza and his granddaughter Adriana Frank Mendoza. Chavelo is survived by his wife Eloisa; his daughter Dianna and her spouse Jesus Barraza; his three sons Michael and his wife Monica Mendoza, Johnny Mendoza and Pedro Torres. Chavelo is further survived by his brother Alfonso Mendoza. Chavelo was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Triunfo De La Fe Church in Fort Stockton, Texas officiated by Pastor Jesus Guevara, burial followed at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton. Those serving as pallbearers were Michael Mendoza, Juan Murillo Jr., Dominic Fuentes, Jesus Barraza, Amador Ornelas, Willie Woodberry, Henry Mendoza and Andrew Mendoza.

Honorary Pallbearers were Karina Barraza, Isaac Mendoza, Victoria Mendoza, Yvan Mendoza, Guillermo Aguirre, Carlos Cortez, Houston McKenzie and Jose Galindo.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Van Horn, Texas.
