Obituary— Jose Jesus Valdez
Jose Jesus Valdez of Van Horn, Texas, passed away at age 76 on March 11, 2021. He was born on June 19, 1944 in Valentine, Texas. He was the oldest son of Jose and Virginia Valdez, who were also from Van Horn. Jose attended school in Valentine all the way through his high school years. In the late 1960’s he and his family moved to Van Horn. Joe, as he was known by all, would go on to serve his country in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran. During his military service, he earned a National Defense Service Medal; a Sharpshooter (Rifle) commendation; a Vietnam Service Medal; 2 O/S Bars; Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ device 1960. In January 1974 he was Honorably Discharged. When he returned home to Van Horn, he settled and worked in maintenance for a few years. His later years he enjoyed spending time at home, reading and cooking. Joe was a humble, honest and easy-going person who was very loved by his friends and family.
Those left to cherish Joe’s memory are his sister Mary Isabel Tarin and her husband Eloy. His brother Sergio “Birdie” Valdez. His nephews: Felix and his wife Mareessa Valdez, Alex Valdez, Chris and wife Ruby Valdez, and Eloy Tarin. Joe is also survived by his four grandnephews: Jalen Valdez, Liam Valdez, Silas Valdez, Messiah Tarin and his two grandnieces: Katya Valdez and Kiarra Trevino.
He is preceded in death by: His parents, Jose and Virginia Valdez, his brothers Salvador “Chava” Valdez, Jaime Valdez and Xavier “Bay” Valdez.
A military graveside funeral service in honor of Jose Jesus Valdez was held on Thursday March 18, 2021, at the Van Horn Cemetery officiated by Father Frank Hernandez of Van Horn. The United States Army Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Van Horn, Texas.
