Obituary— Jose Manuel Balcazar

Jose Manuel Balcazar, of Van Horn, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 02, 2021. He was born on June 17, 1956, to Hortencia and Rodolfo Balcazar. He married Nancy Guerrero on October 20, 1974. Together they shared 46 years of wonderful memories.

A public visitation was held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 5:00 pm with Rosary Service recited at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church located at 308 Almond Street in Van Horn. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with a burial at Van Horn Cemetery.

Jose served the community in the many jobs that he worked; Railroad, School maintenance and bus driver, County Constable and served 18.5 years without accidents for the Texas Dept of Transportation. He was an avid 49ers fan and always willing to make a bet that they would win. Jose was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend. He was always clowning around and putting bunny ears on somebody during pictures. He was always willing to go out of his way to help a friend in need. He enjoyed joking around with his therapy stuffed animal “baby chango Magilla”. He was a hard-working humble man. He was immensely blessed with his children and honored to be a part of their lives. He was very appreciative of his wife who cared for him day after day with unconditional love. Jose was happy with the few friends and family that continuously called and visited over the last several years. These few friends and family were uplifting to his spirits and were like “food for the soul”.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his beloved wife Nancy Balcazar, his son Michael Balcazar and wife Erica, daughter Marissa Torres and husband Francisco.Godson/Nephew Preston Guerrero and wife Lissette. His grandchildren Jordan, Isaac, Aidree, Elijah, Kailynn and Lalah Balcazar, Zaylin and Zariah Torres, Ezra Guerrero. Mother Hortencia Balcazar, mother and father-in-law: Samuel and Socorro Guerrero. Brothers David Balcazar and wife Mellie, Raul Balcazar and wife Norma, Jorge Balcazar Sr. Sisters Nena and husband Jaime Tarango, Corina and husband Rene Mendoza, Margie B. Corralez, brothers and sisters-in-laws Efren Sr. and Margie Ortega, Russell and Lisa Babb, and Samuel Guerrero Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Rudolfo Balcazar Sr., brother Rudolfo Balcazar Jr. and sister Patricia Balcazar.

Pallbearers were Tommy Mendoza, David Balcazar, Cruz Chacon, Lalo Lopez, Isaac Balcazar, Jordan Balcazar, Elijah V. Balcazar, Carlos Tarango, Francisco Torres, George Valenzuela, and Efren Ortega Sr.
