Frustration has set in with the current highway department rehabs in Van Horn. More than 10,000 travelers and professional drivers travel this stretch of I-10 at the crossroads of Highway 90 and 54 daily, with many making that jump-off for fuel, food, and lodging.
Navigating complex detours has become challenging at one underpass, frustrating local law enforcement agencies. The good news is that Texas Department of Transportation representatives have made contractors aware of the issues arising from this construction. More signage and additional cones to help with delineation of the lanes through the underpass where US 90 begins, will be set along with maintaining appropriate turning radius for 18-wheelers that must also obey wide load restrictions.
The bad news is there are still two and a half months of ongoing construction at the Highway 90/I-10 location and approximately six months left for all Van Horn projects. As a result, locals should exercise extra caution when traveling in these areas, as other drivers may be less familiar with the construction zone projects. By doing so, we can help create a safer environment for everyone on the road.
