Ask Tia Juana

Dear Tia Juana,

My next-door neighbor has become increasingly inappropriate with what started out as compliments.  I have never felt the need to concern my husband in such matters, (although I usually give him a vague idea of what’s going on), as I have always been able to deter bad behavior and unwanted advances my whole life.

My oldest daughter thinks her Dad should whoop this guy but I really don’t want tension next door and I certainly don’t want anyone to get hurt.  Subconsciously, I’m hoping he reads this column and backs off.

Signed,

Enough is enough

Dear Enough,

Unfortunately, many men take an innocent act of friendliness or neighborliness, as a signal that you want to leave your husband and run away to a romantic island with them.  If your neighbor is crossing the line, it is time to put him in his place.  Tell him that you are happily married and that your husband is a very jealous man who is prone to snap at the slightest hint of another man looking at you.  Or…you could just tell him you just got back from the doctor’s office with bad news about a highly contagious disease.  If all else fails, tell him the truth—that you do not appreciate his inappropriate comments, and hope that he will stop because you do not want to lose his friendship as a good neighbor.  Good luck!
