Eagle Sports Update

By Brian Gibson, Athletic Director and Football Coach —

The Van Horn Eagle offense showed some life on Friday night as the Eagles started off fast against the Seagraves Eagles.

Opening the game with a three and out defensively, the Eagle offense
scored on the first play of the game with a 52 scoring strike from
Fabian Baeza to Luis Urias. Fabian would later connect with Jacob
Ontiveros on a 9-yard passing play for a touchdown and the two hooked up
again for the two point conversion.

The Seagraves Eagles proved their might however with a 40 – 14 win against our Eagles.

Big plays continue to be the demise of the Eagle Defense as the Seagraves offense was able to hit several during the contest.

Leading the way on defense this week was Matthew Acosta with 13
tackles and 2 tackles for loss. Ryan Martinez and Joseph Nieto
contributed with 11 tackles each Daniel Quintana added 8. Natan Arrazate
returned a Seagraves fumble 34 yards during the contest.

The Eagles offense began to show some life on Friday night amassing
114 yards rushing between Luis Urias, Daniel Quintana, Sammy Quintana,
Natan Arrazate and Ryan Martinez while Fabian Baeza and the Eagles
receiving core totaled 127 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagle offense
continues to improve each week and is working very hard at getting ready
for the upcoming district schedule.

Van Horn will host the Tornillo Coyotes Friday night at Eagle Stadium
in the 2013 Homecoming game. This is the Eagles final tune-up before
entering district competition. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m., and
the Eagles would love to see as many Red and Grey fans packing the
stands as we support each other on this journey.
