Eagle News and Sports Update

By Brian Gibson, Athletic Director and Football Coach —

After falling behind the Iraan Braves early in the first quarter 14 –
0, the rest of the first half proved to be a tough task to slow down
the momentum of the Braves as they rushed out to a 48 – 0 lead at
halftime.

The Eagles played hard the entire game and sustained a few drives in
the second half that did not result in any points, but did develop some
confidence and momentum heading into their next district game. After two
grueling road trips to open district, the Van Horn Eagles roll back
into town to host the Wink Wildcats Friday night at Eagle Stadium with a
7:30 pm kickoff.

The road-weary Eagle squad gets to enjoy three straight district home games and are set on defending their home turf.

Commitment has been the resounding theme for the Eagles as they
prepare to re – commit themselves to being a great football team and
making a push for the playoffs. Come out sporting the beautiful red and
grey on Friday night and help the Eagles turn their season around with a
huge win on Friday night.

Please
congratulate Abril and the rest of the cross country team on their
accomplishments so far this cross country season. We will be traveling
to Alpine this Saturday to compete in the Big Bend Mountain Ramble and
we would love to see our Eagle fans out there.

The Lady Eagles Volleyball team kicked off district play on Saturday
against the toughest opponent in their district, Ft. Hancock.
Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles could not clinch the win. They had some
really solid moments that displayed their true athleticism and tenacity
but their mistakes eventually caught up to them. They just could never
really find their rhythm.

Through this loss, more lessons were learned, for certain. The Lady
Eagles continue to work hard every day in practice and their goal to be
District Champs is definitely still very real. Up next are the Vaqueros
at Sierra Blanca on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Junior Varsity team will
begin at 6 p.m. (CST) and the Varsity will follow. Thank you for your
continued support and encouragement.

This past weekend the junior high and high school teams traveled to
