Filomena O. Gomez, 97, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 in Van Horn at Culberson Hospital. Ms. Gomez was a homemaker. She was born on Aug. 2, 1916 in Candelaria, Texas to Eutiquio Ortega and Francisca Juarez Ortega. She married Benjamin T. Gomez on January 23, 1938 in Van Horn.
A rosary was recited by Dolores Sanchez and. Penney Stevens on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church officiated by Father Saul Pacheco. Burial followed at Van Horn Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Fort Stockton. Pallbearers included Michael Garza, Raul Sanchez, David Borrego, Robert Harper, Oscar Borrego, Jr. and Steven Sanchez.
Ms. Gomez is survived by daughters, Frances Borrego and husband Ysrael Borrego, Sr. of Van Horn, Mary Gallardo and husband Froto Gallardo, of Odessa, son, Ben O. Gomez and wife Empidia Gomez of Odessa, nine Grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren whom she loved very much.
Ms. Gomez is preceded in death by parents, Eutiquio and Francisca Ortega, four brothers, three sisters, husband, Benjamin T. Gomez, Sr., daughters, Frances Gomez, Ruby McGill, son, Orlando Gomez, Sr., grandchildren, Jerry Borrego, Cindy B. Gomez, Raul Sanchez, Jr., Baby Velez and one great-great grandchild Miranda Molinar.
