RELIGION: “Going to Church” by Rodney Tilley

GOING TO CHURCH
by Rodney Tilley, Pastor Van Horn Community Church

I was talking to a friend the other day and I invited him to church, and to my surprise, he agreed to go. I was elated so I told him to join me this Sunday at the “Abundant Christian Assembly of the Baptist Pentecostal Apostolic Seventh Nazarene Christian Brethren preaching the Full Gospel Lutheran Methodist Doctrine praying in Holiness with Catholic Disciples of Independent Charismatic Non-denominational Denominations governed by the Presbyterian Evangelical North Congregation of Episcopal people of the Resurrection Atonement Church.”

He asked me when we met and I told him to come on Saturdays, or Sundays at 8:00, 9, 10, 12, 2, 5, 6, and 7:00 pm; or on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, or the 2nd Monday or the month, except when we meet at the Tent of Prayer at noon on Fridays.

He seemed confused and it is confusing, but that is the church for it consists of different people at different times, each trying to serve God. The Bible speaks of the church as a body, with Christ being the head, and with us, being the members of that body. Some are legs and arms, and some are just armpits. Some of us are the skin and bones, and others just a wart, but we are all part of the body, that is if Christ is the head.

We need each other, for if I am just a miniscule member of the body such as a fingernail, I need the fingers, the hand, and the arm, plus additional body parts just to function.

So join me in church this week, for we are having a special service just for you. Just go north on Hwy. 54, turn left, and go 4.3 miles to the first curve, over three hills, past a large cactus on the right, and then make a sharp left at the sign that says, “Church,” and follow the barking dog, and as you pull up “Honk if you love Jesus.” It is the last house with the toys in the yard. I know it may not look like the church but it is a member of the body.

It is the “Church of the Interior Vena Cava, and don’t let the name fool you, for without them, the body would have a myocardial infarction. So go on it, for the service just started, and they were waiting for you.
