Top 4 places advance to the Regional round in Levelland on Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26 .
AREA champions and Regional qualifiers in the girls division:
•The team of Renee Rivera, Leslie Gonzales, Mireya Quintana, Karina Ramirez won the 4×100 relay in a school record and leading regional time of 49.28 F.A.T.(fully automatic timing) and the 4×200 relay in a school record of 1:45.21(F.A.T.), as well. The Lady Eagles remain undefeated in both of relays.
•April Padilla broke her own school record for the 3rd time this year with a superb regional leading time of 2:25.39. She was also the AREA champion in the mile(5:34.04). Her 2nd year in a row. She remains undefeated in both events this year.
•Kianna Fierro won shot put with a school record throw of 36’-3 ½’’.
AREA champions and Regional qualifiers in the Varsity Boys-Division:
Luis Urias was the only AREA champion in the boys division winning the 100m in 11.12 and the 200m in a time of 22.47, both F.A.T.
Other Regional Qualifiers:
Boys 4x100m. Relay placed 2nd in 45.16 (Luis Urias, Joseph Nieto, Sam Rivera, Benny Molina)
200m.-Karina Ramirez placed 2nd in 25.9
Girls 1600m. Relay-Renee Rivera, Leslie Gonzales, Mireya Quintana, Kianna Fierro placed 3rd with a time of 4:22.76.
Renee Rivera advanced by finishing 4th (33’-1’’).
Kianna Fierro placed 2nd in the discus with a throw of 99’-10’’.
The Van Horn Lady Eagles won the AREA team title ahead of Ozona-2nd and Iraan-3rd . This was the Lady Eagles first ever Area championship after placing 2nd the two previous years. Congratulations to the Lady Eagles and all the Regional qualifiers. Hard work and dedication does pay off. The next meet is Regional on Thursday, April 25 and 26 in Levelland . Come out and support the Eagles!
