Faith Article: “Jesus only Jesus”

By Pastor Rodney Tilley

Last night was a weird night as I had an unusual dream and it kept me up thinking the whole night afterwards. In the dream, I was with a friend and we had been asked been asked to speak at this huge church, but when I finally got there at the church, I did not have a Bible, or any notes, or a message, or anything. I was up front with a water gun that squirted out scriptures, and my glasses were cracked, with one lens missing. (I told you it was a weird dream.) I did not know what to say and so I told the congregation, “All I can tell you about is Jesus.” And it was at which time that I awoke and in a half dazed sleep I began to ponder what it all meant. And this is what I came up with….

When I really get to the main point of life, it is all about Jesus, and Jesus said this over and over in the Bible. I preach sometimes on helping the poor and feeding the hungry and Jesus did just that with the 5000 fed with just 5 loaves and 2 fishes, but when he had finished feeding them, he said, “I am the Bread of Life.” When he met a blind man who could not find his way home, he healed him and then said, “I am the door.” When Lazarus is dead and the family is asking Jesus to bring him back to life, Jesus replies, “I am the resurrection and the life.” When a prostitute has been caught plying her trade all night and she is caught in the web of darkness, and then brought to Jesus, he tells her, “I am the light of the world.” When the disciples are confused in their leadership abilities and cannot find peace of mind, Jesus tells them, “I am the good shepherd.”

It appears to me that Jesus is saying, if you need healing, I am it. If you need food for the day, I am that too. In fact, what he is saying is that whatever you need I am it, which leads me to the point I am trying hard to make. If you need anything seek Jesus. Don’t seek healing, seek the healer. Don’t seek comfort, seek the comforter. Don’t seek food aid, seek the bread of life. Don’t seek wisdom, seek the wisdom giver. We are spending all our time on the issues and their outcomes, when we need to spend our time with the one who decides what the outcome is. The one who says, “I am…….” and nothing more.” It is Jesus only Jesus and that is the truth my friend, with not a thing more to add.
