In December, veteran debaters Camille Uranga and Kyle Seyffert competed at Eastwood High School’s Texas Forensic League Qualifying Meet. The team was very successful, ultimately winning 2nd place at the meet and earning points towards qualifying for TFA State for the second year.
On January 9th, the veterans were joined by a novice team made up of Ashanti Garcia and Steven Urias at the Ozona High School UIL Debate Meet.
Sixteen teams from across West Texas were competing, including our local teams.
At the end of the day, Ashanti and Steven had 3 rounds of competition under their belts, and did an excellent job, although they did not advance to the “out” rounds. The veteran team, Uranga & Seyffert did advance, defeating two teams from Texas Charter Leadership School from San Angelo to bring home 1st place honors.
On the 15th both teams will be traveling to Burgess High School in El Paso to compete in another TFA Qualifying Meet. Seyffert will also compete in another TFA event, Domestic Exempt, which he tried for the first time at Eastwood’s Meet and made it to the finals, taking 1st in both preliminary rounds.
We are extremely proud of these four students. They represent their school and home town very well, receiving complimentary remarks on their behavior, as well as their abilities,
From their judges, their competitors, and those who are simply watching the rounds. Please congratulate these students on their success, and wish them well in the future–they are hoping to bring home many more honors in the next couple of months.
We want to thank everyone who has supported the debate team on their journey
