Two participate for Valentine Pirates in track

Two Valentine Pirates participated in the Van Horn Eagles Relays on Saturday, March 19th. Angeni Kemp, a freshman, participated in both the shot put and discus events and won first in both events in the Junior Varsity division. Angeni had a throw of 24 feet 91/2 inches in the shot and a throw of 60 feet 41/2 inches in the discus.

Elvis Tarango finished in 6th place in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet 10 inches. He ran a 23.41 in the 200 meters and for the second time this year placing third, he broke 11 seconds and ran a 10.91 in the 100 which he tied for first place. He finished in a dead heat with one of Alpine’s better sprinters. He also participated in the discus but did not place in that event.

The Pirates plan to travel to Rankin on Friday, April 1 and then return to Van Horn on the 9th of April before running in the district and area meets that are also scheduled to be held in Van Horn on the 14th and 21st of April.
