Reeves County man arrested on child sexual assault charges

By Lisa Morton

According to the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph McCormick, 35, was indicted on aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a child, sexual contact on October 13.  McCormick, who had short stints with both Reeves and Culberson County EMS more than 7 years ago, had been previously arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault on December 2015, bonding out quickly on a $50,000 bond after an investigation of allegations involving a 12-year old child on November 23, 2015.

A statement from the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office included a re-assurance to the citizens of Reeves County that although they received confirmation that McCormick was a Boy’s Scout Headmaster, the case is currently an isolated one and the victim was not a boy scout.

After being indicted, McCormick had been re-arrested on a charge of indecency with a child and is currently out on bond pending his court date.
