Valentine JH girls basketball under Coach Flippen

The Junior High Lady Pirates started off their basketball season with a bang on Tuesday, November 8th with a victory over the Sierra Blanca Vaqueros in Sierra Blanca. The Vaqueros handed the Pirates their worst defeat of the season last year when they beat the Pirates 32-11. The Pirates 23-20 win over the Vaqueros brought smiles to the faces of the young ladies as well as the fans that followed them to Sierra Blanca.

The Pirates fought through a few questionable calls by the officials and maintained their composure to pull out a hard-fought win. The three eighth grade girls led the way as Samantha Kuhlman scored eight points followed closely by Jaymie Sanchez who had seven points after sitting out the entire second quarter having drawn her third foul in the first four minutes of the game. Cecilia Corral had four points before she fouled out.Seventh grader, Mickie Siddiq closed out the scoring for the Pirates with her four points.

The other Lady Pirates t hat saw playing time included seventh graders Arleene Corral, Nevaeha Mora, and Bela Oldham. Sixth grader, Jordan Miller also contributed to the win and had several important rebounds.

The Pirates will host the Marfa Shorthorns on Monday November 14th at 5:00. This will be their last game before the Thanksgiving break and they will return to action on Monday November 28th when they travel to Balmorhea for a 5:00 start.
