Announcing Artwalk 2016 Honored Artist: Rachael Waller

From Artwalkalpine.com

The 23rd Annual Artwalk, honoring the artists of the Big Bend Region, will be held this Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19, in Alpine, Texas.

This year’s honored artist is Rachael Waller, an award-winning equine photographer who resides on her Brewster County horse rescue ranch, Firelight South.  Her international award-winning piece, “Riders on the Storm,” will be used for promotional materials, T-shirts, posters, postcards and advertising for this year’s event. Waller’s work can be seen at TransPecos Bank in Alpine and Kiowa Gallery.

Artwalk is a two-day family friendly art and music event held in downtown Alpine.  The festival includes 25 official Artwalk galleries, an art silent auction benefiting the Alpine Public Library, art car parade, handmade art market, vintage clothing market, food truck park, free music throughout the event during the day and live music at the Granada Theatre, art demonstrations, and art workshops. For more information on the workshops go to our website at www.artwalkalpine.com.

Alpine’s Artwalk kicks off Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 9:00 p.m.  All of the galleries, the silent auction, food trucks and markets will be open.  Live demonstrations both days include sidewalk chalk painting, blacksmithing, face painting and kite building, all downtown on 5th Street from noon until 4:00 p.m.

The Artwalk Art Car Parade rolls down Holland Avenue at noon on Saturday and includes art cars, art bikes, art dogs, vintage cars, students with kites, bands, politicians, horses and belly dancers.  It has become a tradition to have a parade during Artwalk with area students who have prepared a themed object in school for the occasion.

Unpredictable West Texas weather has forced the evening music performances inside to the Granada Theatre.  Wristbands are $10 each evening.  Saturday’s headliner is Omar and the Howlers. (Friday to be determined.)
