The Junior High Lady Pirates played hosts to the visiting Lady Indians from Fort Davis on Monday, December 12. The Lady Pirates, sporting new uniforms, played with a great deal of pride and enthusiasm but fell to the visitors by a score of 20-17. The Pirates were in the game until the final buzzer and even had the ball with 5 seconds left but were unable to get a shot off to try to tie the game.
Samantha Kuhlman led the Pirates in scoring for the second week in a row with her 6 points followed closely by fellow 8th grader, Jaymie Sanchez who added four points. Four more Pirates added to the score with Nevaeha Mora, Arleene Corral, and
Mickie Siddiq throwing in two points each. Cecilia Corral added one point from the free throw line. Both Bela Oldham and Jordan Miller also saw playing time.
The Lady Indians were led by N. Gallegos who had a game high 12 points followed by A. Granado who had 6 and C. Powers closed out the scoring for Fort Davis with h er two points.
The Pirates close out the first half of the season with a record of 2 wins and 3 losses but with two of those losses coming by two and three points. These young ladies are making great progress from week to week and we plan to be one of the teams to beat going into the second half of district play which will culminate with the district tournament in Marfa on Saturday, February 4th.
