Eagles golf update

By Coach Erica Urias

This past weekend, Triumph Junior Golf hosted the Van Horn Varsity Golf Tournament. It was another great weekend of golf with several Eagles earning top honors.

The Eagle golfers came out swinging and continued to battle as the day went on. The boy’s-team of Daniel Solis, Rafael Rodriguez, Jaime Santa Cruz and Justin Grado earned first place defeating Marfa, Sierra Blanca and Fort Davis. Daniel Solis took first with a score of 84 and Rafael Rodriquez took second with score of 90.

The Lady Eagle dual of Lezlie Jones and Annika Corralez earned more honors this weekend, as well. Lezlie Jones earned first place with a score of 85 and Annika Corralez earned second place with a score of 95. Jones and Corralez continue to work hard and improve week to week.

Lady Eagle Golfers competed in the Alpine Tournament on Monday. Windy conditions made for a challenging day but our girls continued to play tough. Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles were not able to compete as a team as one of our girls fell ill. Out of a field of 32, Lezlie Jones earned herself a second place finish with a score of 85. Jones continues to dig deep and improve her game. Her efforts to meet personal goals as well as team goals, is definitely setting a great tone for this season. Annika Corralez continues to show resiliency and mental toughness on the course which is challenging to do as a freshman. Justice Santa Cruz continues to gain ground as well and works hard each day to improve her short game. Well done, Lady Eagle Golfers!

We look ahead to next Monday when our boy’s-team will take on several teams at the Alpine Tournament. Good luck Eagle Golfers!
