District Receives Excellent FY 2016-2017 Audit Report
By Becky Brewster
The Culberson County-Allamoore ISD Board of Trustees met in Regular Session on February 26 to hear an update on the K-12 Campus construction project from HB Construction Project Manager Manuel Quinones. The project was delayed by three weeks when the footings for the new gym were placed eight feet north of where they should have been. The footings had to be demolished and relocated. Although the project was delayed, the contractor has been compensating by working weekends to catch up and by modifying the phasing of the project. Quinones noted that the site was essentially on grade and that steel erection will begin next week.
The Board also was presented with the District’s audit report for FYE 2016-2017 prepared by Smith and Rives, P.C. The District received an “unmodified opinion” which is the best opinion that can be rendered. The Trustees were informed that the District ended the year with a $2.8 million increase in net position. The District had four minor findings concerning monitoring, unsecured funds, grant monitoring and budgetary compliance under the prior administration that are in the process of being addressed for this fiscal year.
Supt. Ken Baugh reported on various funding received including SHARES funding and a reimbursement from El Paso Electric based on an agreement concerning the maintenance building.
Principal Aaron Hannah reported that District enrollment stood at 397 with a 92.4% attendance rate. Students are given the opportunity to make up absences through extended school and Saturday school.
The Trustees adjourned to a lengthy executive session to discuss approval of administrator contracts. After reconvening, the Trustees tabled this matter until the next meeting.
