The Lady Eagles ended their regular season Tuesday with a huge victory over the Fort Hancock Mustangs to earn themselves another District Championship. It was a grueling and challenging match, to say the least, but the Lady Eagles were able to dig deep and come away with the win. After falling very short in the first two sets, and with only a faint glimmer of hope, the Lady Eagles held on. They came out storming in the third set and set the tone for the rest of the match. The fourth set was tough as the Mustangs did all they could to keep the Lady Eagles from the fifth set. The Lady Eagles came out on fire in the fifth set, and there was no turning back. The final scores for the match were: 9-25, 15-25, 25-13, 25-22, 15-7. The Lady Eagles’ physical and mental endurance outlasted the best of Fort Hancock. They held onto a small strand of hope and found confidence in each other. Which made all the difference. The Lady Eagles kept on grinding and earned their rightful place as the District Champion.

The Lady Eagles have gone two years without a district title. They knew it was going to take some work to earn one. The girls worked hard all summer with the help of Coach Fierro. Maintaining and improving their skills before the start of the season. Since the start of two-a-days, the Lady Eagles set some meaningful goals for themselves and have continued to work hard towards those goals. They have overcome many obstacles this season and have finally realized how far confidence can take them.

Throughout the season, the JV and Varsity teams have put effort into improving their skills both physically and mentally. The JV ended their season on Tuesday with a big win over Fort Hancock, as well, and look forward to next season. They learned a lot and grew tremendously in one season. Next year looks promising.

The Varsity finished undefeated in district play with a season record of 25-8, as of Tuesday. They will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs and will most likely face Sanford Fritch in the Area round. They look forward to earning an Area Championship and will continue to work hard to raise the bar in practice. The Lady Eagles and coaches would like to thank all the parents and fans for their continued support. The encouraging words and pride for our team do not go unnoticed. Congratulations to the 2019 District Champions, Van Horn Lady Eagles.
