Obituary— James Russell Garlick
James Russell Garlick, 78, of Balmorhea, Texas, passed away on Saturday December 28, 2019, at his home.
Graveside services will be held Thursday January 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Van Horn Cemetery with Nephew JoeNeil Henderson officiating.
James was born in Van Horn, Texas to William Frederick Garlick and Julia Segura Garlick on July 29, 1941. He was the 11th of 12 Garlick children. He was raised in Van Horn and was a long-time rancher in the area. He was married to his wife Gina Ivy Garlick in 1981, for 37 years. They moved to Balmorhea, Texas in 1984 where they lived and raised their two children. While living in Balmorhea, James was a teacher and coach for many years before retiring. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was awarded Rifleman Sharpshooter.
James is preceded in death by his parents William and Julia, and brothers and sisters Lucille Henderson, Fred Garlick, Van Garlick, Martha McElroy, Henry Garlick, Cecelia Petty, Jimmie Graham, Marvin Garlick, Lee Roy Garlick and Evelyn Enriquez.
James is survived by his wife Gina Garlick, Daughter Julia Hernandez and husband Ervey Hernandez, son James Russell Garlick Jr. and fiancé Heather Hernandez, Granddaughters Chelsea, Alexi, Skylar Hernandez, Brynlee Machuca and Tynsly Carrillo.
Pallbearers will be Brad Whitfield, Greg Perrin, Mike Capron, Jody Henderson, Ervey Hernandez and Carmen Henderson.
