Obituary— Elvira Barrera
Elvira Barrera, age 84, a lifelong resident of Van Horn, Texas, was called to be with the Lord on October 12, 2020.
Elvira was born on February 2, 1936, in Presidio, Texas, to Jose Orozco and Tiburcia Alaniz Orozco. Elvira was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and was a homemaker.
Visitation for Elvira will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Van Horn, Texas. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Horn Cemetery Gazebo with Father Frank Hernandez serving as Funeral Celebrant with musical accompaniment by Rick Ruiz with burial at the Barrera family plot in the Van Horn Cemetery.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Rodrigo Durbin, David Durbin, Jr., Alex Tarango, Julio Cesar Estrada, Jr., Rey Barrera, Jr., Matthew Acosta and Pete Tarango, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Miguel Mendoza, Gabriel Mendoza, Jose Manuel Mendoza, and Jose Luis Tarango.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. Elvira enjoyed cooking and baking as was known for her famous pumpkin empanadas. Elvira always looked forward to having her family visit with her and cooking a buffet style meal.
Elvira truly lived life to her fullest and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Those preceding Elvira in death are her parents Jose and Tiburcia Orozco; her beloved husband Rodrigo Barrera; one daughter Evangelina Barrera; one grandson Orlando “OJ” Carrillo, Jr.; one son in law David Durbin, Sr., and one great granddaughter Yardia Barrera.
Those left to cherish and honor the life of Elvira are daughters Dolores Acosta of Van Horn, Rosa Mendoza of Midland, Yolanda Tarango of Van Horn, Veronica Estrada of Alpine;16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and all her beloved friends.
Services have been entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home in Van Horn, Texas.
