Shanna Cummings is relatively new to Van Horn. She moved here with her husband, who is a medical provider at Culberson Hospital. Shanna has several qualifying attributes to contribute to our community as well.
She comes to Van Horn via Michigan, a few places in Texas, as well as Las Vegas and Winnemucca, Nevada, a state she would rather not live in ever again. She taught high school English for seven years in Killeen, Texas, and Composition at El Paso Community College. She switched gears a few times before stumbling into local journalism while living in northern Nevada, where she covered county and school district news as well as local events and issues.
Her article “Greyhound strands Northern Nevada” received Best Spot Story, Intermediate from the Nevada Press Association. She’s excited to work with The Van Horn Advocate and get to know Culberson County and its residents much better.
When not taking notes at board meetings, she might be working on her novel, attempting to coax green things to grow, photographing nature, or look for new adventures. Shanna said she is also a mother to three cats and a wife to one goofball doctor.
The Advocate plans to use Shanna’s skills to improve newspaper content. She has a few bylines under her belt already that we hope our readers will take notice.
