Texas Mountain Trail Mini Grant Program

The Texas Mountain Trail Region (TMTR), is part of the Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) award-winning Texas Heritage Trails Program (THTP) heritage tourism initiative. This economic development initiative encourages communities, heritage regions, and the state to partner and promote Texas’ historic and cultural resources. These successful local preservation efforts, combined with statewide marketing of heritage regions as tourism destinations, increase visitation to cultural and historic sites and bring more dollars to Texas communities. This in turn supports the THC’s mission to protect and preserve the state’s historic and prehistoric resources for the use, education, economic benefit, and enjoyment of present and future generations.

The TMTR strengthens the future of our region by investing in projects that exhibit initiatives that support our mission to support and facilitate recreational, cultural, and educational opportunities and promote economic development compatible with the heritage of Far West Texas.

The Texas Mountain Trail Region (TMTR) offers small grants to help fund special projects, events, and programs to promote heritage tourism within the region. These grants are designed to promote public awareness of the history of the TMTR, encourage community involvement and participation, and enhance the visitor experience.

Annual grant amount per project is $1,000 and the TMTR will give out two (2) grants per fiscal year. Grant awards are determined through a semi-annual application and review process facilitated by the TMTR Grants Committee and staff. Application deadlines are March 1 for the spring cycle or August 1 for the fall cycle. Committee recommendations must be approved by the TMTR Board of Directors.
