By Brian Gibson, Athletic Director and Football Coach –
The Van Horn Eagles went on the road Friday night to Badger stadium
in McCamey to open District play. Despite a strong showing by the Eagle
team, McCamey pushed out on top in the second quarter of play with 22
points in the quarter and held on for a 42 to 24 victory.
The Eagles are now 0 – 1 in district play and will travel to Iraan on
Friday to face off against the Braves in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
Scoring in every quarter of the game, the Eagles outpaced the Badgers
in every category except the second quarter scoring. With a strong head
wind blowing directly in the face of the Van Horn offense, we could not
change the field position battle and McCamey was able to capitalize on
the short field.
The Eagle offense completed 52% of their passes on Friday night for
206 yards and rushed the ball 53 yards for 216 yards outgaining the
Badger offense by 82 total yards. Great job by the Eagle offensive line
on Friday night: Kyle Seyffert, Nando Subia, Mattew Acosta, Miguel
Velez, Luis Gonzalez, Carlos Tarango, Roman Rocha, and Jaime Santa
Cruz.Game Statistics:

The Van Horn Junior High Eagles fell to the McCamey Badgers on
Thursday night by a score of 20 – 14. The Eagles were able to force
overtime tying the score in the fourth quarter, and after failing to
score on their first overtime possession, the McCamey Badgers scored on a
short quarterback scamper. The JH Eagles will play host to the Iraan
Braves on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.
The Van Horn Eagle Cross Country teams
ran very well this past weekend at the Monahans Invitational XC Meet.
The girls team finished 5th overall and was the top performing 1A team
at the meet.
Abril Padilla won 1st place at the meet with a time of 11:37, and
has been named Runner of the Week 1A by TXRunning! This is a huge honor
because only one boy and one girl from each division (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A,
5A) is chosen by TXRunning each week from all the cross country runners
in the entire State of Texas.
